The below gown was Designed and created based off Italian Film "La Grande Bellezza" as an entry for the ICFF Toronto (Itallian Contemporary Film Festival) Competition sponsored by TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) in partnership with the Fashion School at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University) in 2015.
La Grande Bellezza is a beautifully shot Italian film, with every frame scenically portraying the natural beauty of Italy’s society and culture. The film follows Jep Gambardella, a 65 years young writer on his search for “The Great Beauty”. Throughout the film, the luxurious depiction of Italy’s high society becomes washed away as the audience is revealed to the true, corrupted colours of this elite culture, later juxtaposed with surreal-like, lucid imagery. This outfit was inspired by the innocence that is left after seeing through that corruption, with details depicting the figurative and literal feelings, colours and characters seen throughout the film.
